Background | Immunoglobulin M, or IgM for short, is a basic antibody that is produced by B cells. It is the primary antibody against A and B antigens on red blood cells. IgM is by far the physically largest antibody in the human circulatory system. It is the first antibody to appear in response to initial exposure to antigen. The fragment antigen-binding (Fab fragment) is a region on an antibody that binds to antigens. It is composed of one constant and one variable domain of each of the heavy and the light chain. These domains shape the paratope - the antigen- - at the amino terminal end of the monomer. The two variable domains bind the epitope on their specific antigens. |
Research Area | Secondary Antibodies, Immunology |
Application Notes | Optimal working dilutions should be determined experimentally by the investigator. |
